Taking the Socktober Challenge

Taking the Socktober ChallengeWe’re big fans of Kid President, so when he announced the Socktober challenge to get 1 million people to help the homeless, we knew we needed to be a part of it. During the month of October, our San Diego and Cincinnati offices collected more than 60 food items, 10 bags of toiletries and cleaning supplies, and 279 pairs of socks to donate to local shelters.
Donations were distributed among the following:

  • Haven House, an emergency shelter in Hamilton, Ohio, providing food and housing to homeless individuals and families.
  • One Way Farm, a non-profit organization in Fairfield, Ohio, caring for abused, abandoned, neglected, troubled youth, and children with developmental disabilities.
  • Toussaint Academy San Diego (TASD), a licensed group home in San Diego County, assisting homeless youth to reach self-sufficiency by providing a safe and stable living environment and education and supportive services.

While the focus of this initiative was socks, we learned through our local shelters that food, toiletries, and cleaning supplies are always needed so we’re ready to kick-start our annual holiday efforts to continue supporting the people in our communities. In San Diego, we’re gearing up for our annual Holiday Food Drive and in Cincinnati we’ll be collecting Toys for Tots.
We had fun posting pictures of our staff on Facebook and Twitter showing off their socks as a way of encouraging each other and our fans to participate. We love to share what’s going on at our offices, so if you don’t already, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!
