Students become acclimated to their college campuses from the moment they enter into their collegiate journey. For transfer students, that acclimation is different. Supporting transfers in acclimating to their newfound institutions calls for resources and support in place.
“A Vision for Transfer Centers” focuses on physical locations, support, and resources that higher education entities can provide to Transfer Students to make their transition and acclimation as seamless as possible.

Preparing students for transfer to bachelor’s degree programs is a key component of community colleges’ core mission. Yet the transfer process often fails to serve students. While most students who begin community colleges intend to get a bachelor’s, few actually do. Aspen supports leaders of community colleges and four-year institutions in improving transfer student outcomes through qualitative and quantitative research, convenings, and curricular resources. One example is the Transfer Intensive, a one-year initiative consisting of monthly sessions designed to support partnerships between community colleges and AASCU members in advancing the practices and policies associated with improved, more equitable transfer student success.
In this presentation, Heather Adams, Senior Program Manager of the College Excellence Program at Aspen, will provide an overview of the project and update on the work and progress of participating institutions.
