New England Institutions and Students to Benefit from Optimized, Transparent Transfer Experience with CollegeSource TES and Transferology Solutions
BOSTON and SAN DIEGO, September 1, 2020 – The New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) and CollegeSource today announced a partnership to give area institutions and students increased access to CollegeSource’s industry-leading transfer solutions – TES and Transferology. Established as part of NEBHE’s Cost Savings Programs, the new partnership enables efficient student transfer, mitigates course credit loss and increases overall transparency across the full transfer process for all education institutions in New England.
Today, more than one third of students – or approximately 1.38 million – transfer on their path to degree achievement; however, a significant number of credits are often lost in the transfer process. A 2017 national report from the U.S. General Accounting Office found that transfer students to four-year institutions lost an average of 43% of their credits while community college transfers to four-year institutions lost 26 percent of their credits.
“One of the effects of the pandemic will be a dramatic increase in student transfer rates over the next few years. Course credit loss can hinder success among transfer students by increasing the time to degree and the costs of completing a degree, so having access to tools for unifying the transfer experience and preserving credits is critical,” said NEBHE President and CEO Michael K. Thomas. “TES and Transferology are valuable transfer navigation tools for our higher education institutions and students alike.”
TES and Transferology are also complementary tools for institutions participating in NEBHE’s grant-funded initiative, the New England Independent College Transfer Guarantee (the Guarantee). The Guarantee is developing systematic pathways from community colleges into independent institutions in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island for students who hold associate degrees. Both TES and Transferology are beneficial for participating institutions and increase access to transfer information, strengthen efficacy of transcript evaluation and streamline the transfer process. This new partnership supports NEBHE’s goal to increase higher education access, opportunity and degree attainment irrespective of a student’s, socioeconomic status, race or zip code and buttresses other transfer initiatives currently underway.
“Now more than ever, institutions, students and parents need the right technology at their fingertips to make informed decisions about their degree path and enable mobility between institutions,” said Troy Holaday, president, CollegeSource. “We are proud to join forces with NEBHE to offer New England’s institutions and students easier access to solutions that support transfer and degree achievement.”
An all-in-one institution-facing solution, TES enables researching transfer credit, tracking evaluations and managing equivalencies for registrars, enrollment managers and transfer coordinators. Using TES, staff are able to quickly locate course descriptions, route and track the evaluation process, store, manage, group and publicize the resulting equivalencies, and employ powerful algorithms to generate lists of equivalencies between institutions.
Transferology – the only nationwide open transfer network with comprehensive transfer data – is a cloud-based solution that provides student access to millions of course-to-course and program-to-program transfer equivalencies. This information helps college advisors, students and parents in making informed decisions when transferring higher education credit.
Both TES and Transferology can be fully integrated to allow credit evaluators to make decisions based on real student usage data, thus creating a seamless and holistic transfer solution.
