A First Look at the Higher Ed Policy Central in Collaboration with AACRAO [VIDEO]

In case you missed it, you can now watch the recording of our recent webinar presentation with the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) in which we unveiled the first ever higher education institutional policy database. Created in collaboration with AACRAO, the new Higher Ed Policy Central is a web-based portal that allows users to explore, compare, and analyze policies from institutions nationwide, filling an industry gap for policy professionals in the research and development of academic, operations, and regulatory policies.
Where did this need come from? Members of AACRAO have consistently requested a clearinghouse of institutional policies as a means to support policy development and institutional benchmarking. Troy Holaday, president of CollegeSource says, “Academic and institutional policies have historically been an intrinsic part of each institution’s catalog. As institutions migrated their catalogs to the web over the last decade, policies became scattered throughout various print and online resources. AACRAO and CollegeSource recognized the critical need for a database to support both researchers and policy writers.”
Dr. Holaday also noted that “collecting policy data is more complicated than most people realize. Policies consist of text and tables without consistent structure or labels. They are more difficult to find, recognize, and move to a database than something more structured, like course data.”
The Higher Ed Policy Central will soon be available as a complimentary benefit to AACRAO member institutions in early 2021. A more detailed timeline of next steps can be found in the session recording. The webinar featuring CollegeSource President Troy Holaday and AACRAO Deputy Director Melanie Gottlieb, also includes interesting insights into the behind-the-scenes methodology for developing the tool, a sneak peak at the portal, as well as a wide-ranging Q&A with the audience.
