Position purpose

As a member of CollegeSource, Inc., a successful AWS DevOps Engineer plays a critical role in supporting technical teams engaged in project work by designing, building, and maintaining cloud infrastructure. This role ensures that cloud environments are scalable, secure, and efficient by leveraging Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and aligning with SOC 2 compliance standards.

With a strong emphasis on automation, the AWS DevOps Engineer proactively develops and implements best practices to streamline deployments, optimize cloud performance, and enhance system reliability. This role is instrumental in enabling application development, cloud migration, and modernization efforts while also providing troubleshooting and retrospective analysis as needed.

Collaboration is key, as the AWS DevOps Engineer works closely with leadership and cross functional technical teams to influence infrastructure strategies, improve operational efficiency, and drive continuous improvement in cloud architecture and deployment processes.

Essential functions

Essential functions are the basic job duties that must be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation.     • Build, Provision, and Manage AWS environments, ensuring scalability, high availability and security best practices.
    • Configure and troubleshoot AWS networking components including VPCs, Security Groups, Route 53 and VPNs.
    • Design and Provision lifecycles for deployment automation through CI/CD pipelines.
    • Utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) libraries such as AWS CDK, AWS SAM, and CloudFormation to ensure tracking, automating, managing, and compliance of AWS cloud environments.
    • Design, implement, and maintain backup, disaster recovery and failover strategies for AWS-hosted applications.
    • Implement and manage monitoring, alerting and logging solutions using AWS CloudWatch or equivalent tools.
    • Enforce cloud security best practices, including IAM policies, role based access control and compliance with industry standards (SOC2, FERPA, etc.).
    • Collaborate and work with various departments across the organization to create, develop and streamline cloud operations, and document best practices.
    • Collaborate with other CollegeSource teams including Product Development, Sales, and Project Managers Office (PMO).
    • Provide On Call support during assigned hours.
    • Provide and complete special projects of varying degrees of complexity as necessary.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Competencies/traits required to perform the job

    • Must be able to be seated, on the phone and work on a computer 90% of the time.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Detail-oriented with a focus on continuous improvement.
    • Some travel required (up to 5%).

Education/experience

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred, BS in Computer Science, Systems Analysis, MIS, or similar degree (or equivalent experience)
    • 3-6 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer, with a focus on AWS services and infrastructure
    • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or AWS Certified Solutions Architect is preferred
    • Must be able to understand the Software Development Lifecycle and have comprehensive knowledge of different automation tools to develop digital pipelines.
    • Ability to provision, operate, and manage, automate and continuously improve AWS cloud environments.
    • Must be able to work with development, operations, and security teams to deploy, operate, and scale AWS environments.
    • Experience using CI/CD concepts to focus on software-defined life cycles, highlighting tools emphasizing automation.
    • Ability to ensure speedy delivery of secure and compliant systems that are highly available and scalable.
