Starting 2019 with SACRAO, NISTS, and HEUG Alliance

With each new year, a whole schedule of higher education conferences and events begin. Supporting our current clients and forging relationships with new ones is one of our key missions, so we do our best to be present everywhere we can. Let’s take a look at the first few conferences that helped us to kick off 2019.
SACRAO
The Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (SACRAO) started off our 2019 calendar of shows. Located in Baton Rouge (also known as “Red Stick”), Louisiana, SACRAO contained a number of sessions about recruiting and collaboration. Our focus at the conference was on transfer, and there was a good deal of interest in transfer topics as admissions processes tighten up across the country. We co-presented with Michael Courson from Louisiana State University-Alexandria about using our signature transfer products, TES® and Transferology®, to improve efficiency in the transfer evaluation process. It was very well-received and built excitement around CollegeSource products for the rest of the conference.

One of the big themes for this year’s SACRAO conference was ‘making the most out of the resources that are available’ and I believe we have some unique tools to truly help institutions do just that. Of course you can’t go to Louisiana without sampling the local cuisine, and we did as much of that as we could! Fried catfish, BBQ Shrimp, étouffée, gumbo, jambalaya, and so much more – what a great location!
NISTS
Up next was the annual conference for the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (NISTS) in Atlanta, Georgia. NISTS is all about transfer – it’s right in the name, after all. There was increased interest around transfer efficiency, and we debuted our “Power Couple” presentation, appropriately on Valentine’s Day! (TES and Transferology make a great pair don’t they?!) There was a bit of disagreement that Brad and Angelina still qualify as a Power Couple, but everyone got behind Beyoncé and Jay-Z!
Transfer policies, transfer processes, and transfer tools were the order of the day, every day. With more and more state legislatures implementing requirements from a reporting and accountability standpoint – particularly around transfer – public and private institutions alike need to step up their game. There’s only so much that you can do without the proper tools.
On a lighter note, some of you may know that CollegeSource President Troy Holaday had a little mishap riding an electric scooter. He’s on the mend now and, of course, if you know Troy, he has a great sense of humor. We couldn’t help ourselves – we had to stage a small re-enactment of the events (Troy laughed – so you can, too!).

HEUG Alliance
The Higher Education User Group (HEUG) Alliance conference for PeopleSoft users was held in Orlando, Florida this spring.  We debuted our “Give Your Schedule a Kick (with Schedmule)” purple shirts and some pretty amazing grand prizes. Needless to say, they were a hit!

At Alliance, we co-presented again, this time with a partner from Humboldt State University. CollegeSource’s Melani Pratt and Humboldt State’s Registrar, Clint Rebik, delivered the session, “Leveraging Technology to Support Student Successes and Transfer Initiatives,” featuring our award-winning degree audit tool, uAchieve®. The session was well-attended and we had great traffic at our booth. Of course, the venue being near Disney was hard to beat and we had a fantastic time.
Stay tuned for more recaps coming soon.
We can’t wait to tell you what fun happenings took place at the AACRAO Annual Conference and Ellucian Live!
In the meantime, if you’re heading to California’s CACCRAO conference and would like to learn about our solutions, come visit our booth and say “hi.” Want to set up a meeting or get a question answered now? Get in touch with Eric Causley at
